Top 5 Ways to Keep it Local this Summer!

Looking for ways to embrace the onset of the summer season? Look no further! We are fortunate to have an array of options here in Charleston to enjoy the summer in style. This Saturday (June 21st) marks the beginning of Summer! Yay! In celebration of my favorite season I’d like to share with you my list of five awesome ways to make the most of your summer in Charleston. LLF has over 500 members, many of which are involved in the business of making your life more enjoyable this summer. Here’s a few of our summertime faves:

#1: Outdoor Adventures

Member Spotlight: AAP with Roger Martinez

Hey guys! Today I’m here to show some love for LLF member American Automated Payroll, our wonderful hosts of the June Member Mixer coming up next week. I got to interview Roger Martinez, Business Development Manager at AAP. Roger has been part of AAP for six years now, helping companies assess their needs and streamline their payroll, tax, and HR functions. He had lots of good insight on what it means to be a local business, even when that business extends to a national market.

Knife Sharpening Event at Coastal Cupboard

Dull knife, dull life! Sharpen them up this weekend, June 6-8, at The Coastal Cupboard in Mt. Pleasant’s Belle Hall Shopping Center. Stop by during regular store hours to get your knives professionally sharpened for just $1 per knife, where every dollar benefits Lowcountry Local First.

Eat Local Challenge - What Being Local Means to Me

Is it really already May? Wow, April flew by! You know what they say…time flies when you’re having fun!

Fun is exactly what I had while taking the Eat Local Challenge. Not only was it fun to challenge myself and shift my spending towards more locally produced products, but it was also insightful, empowering, and rewarding.

In bringing ELM to a close, I thought I’d share my thoughts on living local, and why the work being done at LLF is so, so, SO important.

What does living local mean to me?

Eat Local Challenge - Farm Tours and my day at Lowland Farms!

Despite the icky weather this past weekend, the Lowcountry Farm Tours happened Saturday and from what I could tell over at Lowland Farms, people were having a great time!

I was volunteering the event and arrived at Lowland Farms early in the morning. Kenneth, aka “Skinny”, and Jay are the stewards of this beautiful land. Both greeted me with warm welcomes and seemed excited to be showing folks around their farm. I was just excited that there were baby goats!
