Slow Food Charleston

A non-profit committed to good, clean and fair food for all. The volunteer-run organization coordinates the Snail Awards and Ark of Taste celebrations, a Snailblazer micro-grant program,
the Tiny Tastemakers youth initiative, seasonal potlucks and happy hours, and efforts dedicated to protecting the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of the modern, fast food life.

Of importance to us is defending and advocating policies that promote holistic alternatives to the industrial system; Raising awareness of culturally significant heritage foods, customs and recipes, and teaching the next generation how to grow, prepare and share food responsibly; Connecting people to the land and to one another through local projects, tastings, workshops and shared meals; Recognizing and promoting food producers, artisans, purveyors, chefs and restaurateurs who contribute meaningfully to the quality, authenticity, and sustainability of the food system that feeds us.
