City of Charleston New Business Open House
These events, held each month, are a chance for local entrepreneurs to connect with representatives from various city departments to discuss regulations, available services, and the overall new-business process. Information on programs offered by the city and outside organizations designed to help new businesses succeed will also be available.

SCORE Mentoring
The mission of the Charleston SCORE Chapter is to provide professional counseling and mentoring to entrepreneurs. They offer ongoing free resources, one-on-one counseling, and workshops for existing and new small businesses. Local Works hosts our members for free monthly mentoring from local SCORE mentors. RSVP or join the wait list for the next session here.

SBA Workshops and Webinars
The U.S. Small Business Administration has delivered millions of loans, loan guarantees, contracts, counseling sessions and other forms of assistance to small businesses. Find a training for your business’ unique needs in their learning center and view full resources for planning, launching or growing a small business.

Charleston American Marketing Association
The Charleston chapter of the American Marketing Association offers a variety of programming to suit marketers’ needs, from Marketing 101 topics to more advanced material. AMA Charleston monthly luncheons and coffee talks are open to their members and non-members. View their calendar of events.

April 5: Patents, Trademarks & Copyrights Intellectual Property Law

The Charleston Small Business Development Center is hosting a workshop about all things trademark and copyright. This is a great resource for any small business looking to receive advice from an attorney in a relaxed setting. Buy your ticket here.

April 27: Free Tax Workshop 2018

The South Carolina Department of Revenue, the South Carolina Society of Enrolled Agents, the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, and the Small Business Development Center are teaming up to host a free tax workshop for small business owners. Topics will include business taxes, benefits, tax keeping, and sales tax obligations.

April 30: Meet the Lender
In partnership with the Small Business Administration (SBA) and in honor of National Small Business Week, the city of Charleston Business & Neighborhood Services Division will host a “Meet the Lender” event on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Johnson Hagood Stadium (68 Hagood Avenue). The goal of the event is to assist “lender ready” entrepreneurs and businesses in connecting with an SBA lender and ultimately obtaining financing. There will be 8 to 10 lenders present, holding prescheduled one-on-one appointments to allow business owners the opportunity to pitch their request to multiple lenders. Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and S.C. Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will also be present to provide technical assistance to business owners in attendance. Attendees are encouraged to bring and distribute copies of their business plan and financial statements. The event is free for both lenders and participants. Registration is mandatory, as no walk-ins will be accepted. To secure a spot, register before April 20th by contacting Meg Thompson at thompsonm@charleston-sc.gov.
