Eat Local Month (April) is Lowcountry Local First’s annual effort to focus attention on local growers, fishermen and restaurants while providing fun and educational opportunities for our community to actively engage in eating what’s ripe and in season. Join us for these community events and activities that directly connects consumers with the farmers, restaurants, businesses and organizations that make the Lowcountry a one-of-a-kind place to live (and eat!).

Eat Local Challenge: Make the Shift
April 1-30

Lowcountry Local First’s Eat Local Challenge takes place throughout the entire month of April each year. We challenge you to shift $10 or more of your weekly food spending towards the local food system. By signing the Pledge (to launch in early 2019), we’ll guide you on where to find the freshest ingredients, highlight participating restaurants, feature easy recipes, connect you with local farmers and CSAs and more! Agribusiness is SC’s largest industry however over 90% of our food is still imported.

The goal of the Eat Local Challenge is to help consumers “Make the Shift” in their choices, their spending and their overall local food consumption. The challenge is open to individuals and businesses. Sign the Pledge and help Lowcountry Local First in our mission to strengthen the local food system! Plow to Chow: 2019 Charleston Farmers’ Market Kick-Off
Saturday, April 13

Celebrate the kick-off of the 2019 downtown Charleston Farmers’ Market in Marion Square. Lowcountry Local First and two local chefs will host a demonstration tent, giving attendees a taste of what’s fresh and local. Attendees also enjoy kids activities, interactive photo booth and local recipe scavenger hunt around the market. This event is free and open to all.

12th Annual Chef’s Potluck
Sunday, April 28

One of the most popular fundraising events of the year, the 12th Annual Chef’s Potluck takes place at beautiful Middleton Place. More than 18 participating chefs are paired with more than 30 local farmers and fishermen to bring attendees the freshest, local ingredients in Charleston! Enjoy live music, local libations, farm tours, two tastings from each chef, and some of the most beautiful views at Charleston’s oldest maintained gardens at Middleton Place. Proceeds from this event benefit Lowcountry Local First’s Growing New Farmers Program.
