Professional Bio

Born and raised in South Carolina, Kayla is a dedicated advocate for community building and social impact. She holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Anthropology from Ithaca College, where her interest in the humanities propelled her into various internships and positions within museums, arts organizations, and non-profits over the last ten years. Throughout these experiences, Kayla honed her skills in marketing, communications, event planning, and fundraising, all while nurturing her passion for fostering connections and promoting the common good.

Driven by her desire to make a tangible difference in her community, Kayla embarked on a career dedicated to philanthropy and development. She began her journey at The History Center in Tompkins County, where she served as the Visitor and Administrative Services Manager, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors in the non-profit sector. Building on this foundation, Kayla spent four impactful years as the Senior Development Associate at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry here in Charleston, building relationships with members and advocating for the power of play. Most recently, Kayla served as the Director of Advancement at The Cooper School in West Ashley, where she leveraged her strategic thinking and passion for philanthropy to make a difference in the lives of students and faculty.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Kayla finds joy in spending quality time with her beloved dog and playing her many instruments. You can also find her tuning into Ohm Radio, volunteering for local non-profits, and exploring the local music scene.
