Advocacy Alert: S.244 being reviewed by SC Senate Subcommittee
A subcommittee of SC Senators is currently reviewing and potentially amending draft state legislation that could address the skyrocketing costs and headaches around liquor liability insurance for small businesses across the state. Even if you do not serve alcohol, this is an issue impacting the ability for many of your peers to start and grow their business. We've seen multiple long-standing businesses shutter in the last few weeks, citing astronomical insurance costs as a top reason for closure.
S. 244 is a new bill sponsored by Sens. Massey, Alexander, Rice, Turner, Climer, Williams, Bennett and Cromer. The sub-committee actively reviewing it includes Sens. Johnson, Campsen, Massey, Adams, Tedder, Elliott, Walker.
We've expressed our support of this policy reform, and would encourage you to speak up directly so they can hear your own perspective. Liability insurance the top expense pain point reported in our 2024 member survey, with more than 53% of respondents selecting this as a top pain point. Your story is truly impactful on issues like this. No matter who your state senator is, please take a moment this week to ask for their support of bill S.244, and include Sen. Tedder of district 42, Sen. Campsen of district 43, and Sen. Adams of district 44 on your email or phone call:
