Top 5 Ways to Keep it Local this Summer
Jun 19, 2014
Looking for ways to embrace the onset of the summer season? Look no further! We are fortunate to have an array of options here in Charleston to enjoy the summer in style. This Saturday (June 21st) marks the beginning of Summer! Yay! In celebration of my favorite season I’d like to share with you my list of five awesome ways to make the most of your summer in Charleston. LLF has over 500 members, many of which are involved in the business of making your life more enjoyable this summer. Here’s a few of our summertime faves:
#1: Outdoor Adventures
Summer is the season for the great outdoors. I can’t think of a better way to immerse in Mother Nature than by planning an outdoors adventure. Coastal Expeditions offers kayak and paddleboarding rentals, lessons, and tours guided by a team of dedicated naturalists, as well as Bulls Island Ferry tours. Also in the adventure biz is On Purpose Adventures. From flyboarding to paintball to rock climbing to jet-ski safaris, OPA has all your crazy adventure needs covered. Tideline Tours is another option, offering saltmarsh ecotours and dolphin-sightings guaranteed!
Need to gear up for these outdoor excursions? The Backpacker has all your camping needs covered. And for those looking to spend some quality time on the water, The Charleston Angler can outfit you with the necessary expertise and gear.
#2: Sweat it out
Summer is also the season for sunshine and sweat. Get yourself a hefty dose of Vitamin D and sweat out the last of those Winter toxins at Wild Blue Ropes, an aerial ropes course sure to push your limits physically and mentally. Or, for those wanting to take advantage of living along the ocean, try surfing! Shaka Surf School on Folly Beach offers private and group surf lessons, surf camps, and surf/yoga adventures.
#3: Summer Sports
For the sports enthusiast, Charleston has both a pro baseball team, the Charleston Riverdogs, and a pro soccer team, The Charleston Battery. Lots of opportunities to check these guys out, as games continue into the Summer season, so be sure to get out there and support our local sports talent!
#4: History Buffs
Want to learn a little more about the great city of Charleston? Summer is the perfect time to take that tour you’ve always wanted to check out, but for some reason just haven’t gotten around to. Bulldog Tours covers the full spectrum– Ghost Tours, Culinary tours, and History tours. Or, check out Historic Walking Tour Charleston, where you can download an app that provides audio walking tours for Broad Street and south of Broad.
#5: Cool Down, Kick Back, and Relax
Need to cool down after all this hot Summer fun? Keep your eyes peeled for King of Pops. My favorite: Coconut Lemongrass. Oh. My. Yum. Or, post up with a cold beer at one of Charleston’s premier breweries: COAST, Freehouse, Holy City, and Palmetto. Also sure to be a good time is a visit to the Firefly Vodka Distillery & Tasting room, South Carolina’s only distillery. Sweet Tea at its finest, ya’ll!
Hopefully this post helps kick your Summer in gear. Big thanks to our members mentioned here and to all of you supporting the work we do. Happy Solstice, from your friends at LLF!
