Walking into any GDC Home, it’s easy to see why this ‘home décor emporium’ has functioned as a local staple in the Lowcountry for so long. With complimentary in-store services, home inspiration as far as the eye can see, and even a completely off the electric grid flagship store, GDC stands out as a must visit shop for any and all home decor needs.

In the past 40 years, GDC has evolved from it’s early 1978 origins as a 2,500 sq. ft. shop selling drapery and upholstery fabric into a 10,000+ sq. ft. multi-location business. They currently employ over 60 people and operate out of three stores throughout the Lowcountry, with locations in Charleston, Mount Pleasant, and Kiawah Island.

But even through their many expansions, GDC Home has remained in the Lowcountry as a locally owned and operated business and a certified Lowcountry Local First Member. As part of this week’s Member Spotlight, we reached out to Jaime Fernandez, head of marketing for GDC Home, who gave us some insight into GDC’s current decor trends and services, her favorite places to shop and dine local, and how GDC Home lives local.

“Being local means a hand curated collection of home goods brought to you by your neighbors. We know how you want to live, the products you need to keep life simple because we live next door”

The furniture and home decor at GDC Home comes from some of the best vendors in the home furnishing industry, including  Lee IndustriesThe MT CompanySummer ClassicsVanguard Furniture, and many more. The team of buyers collects pieces from all over the world and keeps up to date on all the most recent furniture and home decor trends. Marketing Director Jaime’s current GDC Home favorites? “Natural materials. All things rattan wrapped and bent cane. Natural grass rugs, baskets and lighting. Such a fun playful coastal feel without compromising on style and timeless appeal.”

We’re especially proud to have GDC Home as a member of Lowcountry Local First because of their commitment to their local community and to remaining a local fixture of the Lowcountry. GDC Home’s Jamie Fernandez put it best, “Our clients mean everything to us. We see your friendly faces not only at our stores but out on the water, in the grocery store, and having dinner at the next table. Being local means supporting our Lowcountry community here and now.”
