Sponsor Highlight: Certified South Carolina Grown
Apr 20, 2016
Certified South Carolina Grown knows that local just tastes better. That’s why they have made it their mission to make it easier for consumers to identify, find and buy South Carolina products.
The Certified South Carolina program is a cooperative effort among producers, processors, wholesalers, retailers, and the South Carolina Department of Agriculture (SCDA) to brand and promote South Carolina products. The state of South Carolina has an abundance of locally gown products- however it can be difficult to know if what you’re consuming is local. Certified SC makes it easier to find these products, and encourages consumers to become familiar with the source of products.
“It’s more important than ever that we show our support for the farmers of South Carolina,” says Hugh Weathers, Commissioner of Certified South Carolina Grown. “A great way to do that is choosing Certified SC Grown wherever you shop and dine. After all, it’s a matter of taste.”
Our Eat Local initiative at Lowcountry Local First advocates for support of the local food systems in order to connect local farmers, producers and apprentices to local restaurant, grocers and community members. Certified SC’s commitment to connecting local producers and consumers is a major part in that mission.
“Lowcountry Local First and the SC Department of Agriculture have worked together for years to provide support and advocacy for farmers in South Carolina,” says Nikki Kelley, Sustainable Agriculture Director for Lowcountry Local First. “It was a natural fit for the Certified SC Grown program to support Eat Local Month and demonstrates how public and private partnerships can increase the accessibility and efficacy of valuable community programs such as the Eat Local Challenge. Through this partnership, both organizations can increase the visibility of and access to the incredibly bounty of products produced in our state.”
We are so thankful to have Certified SC as an Eat Local Month sponsor!
